Real Food

September 26th, 2007

I’m back, now sipping my own coffee concoction as I listen to Christmas songs on WMP. In 30-40 minutes, my lunch should be here courtesy of 8mcdo. I do miss cooking REAL food! Preparing a blonde roux for a white sauce, adding in my favorite mushrooms, maybe slices of ham. Whisking in some wine for flavor. Pasta cooked for that perfect bite. And just the right amount of parmesan cheese. Oh, I could almost taste it!

Papcy’s favorite was fettucini. And beef served with broccoli in a sizzling plate all the way from the kitchen. Mamcy loved by smokey buffalo wings. And I still remember serving my sis’ birthday guests my very own quesadillas!

There’s a unique joy I find in preparing dishes, usually adding garnishings to make them visually appealing. People eat with their eyes before anything else. Oops, delivery guy is here!

Morning Cup

Someone was at the gate this morning so there was no choice but to get up. I thought it was the package guy we were expecting but heck no. It was the cash delivery guy in his motorcycle, not bad. For me, getting up at 11:30am is not really a pleasant experience. It’s as if half of your day has already passed you by. Lost opportunities. Tsk tsk tsk. Oh well, time to get my morning cup and start my day.

Today I got the chance to catch "No Reservations" at the Podium Cinema and well, I liked the movie. Simply because it showed a lot of professional kitchen stuffs. It thrilled me to hear them talk about "reduction", to see them plate their desserts, and especially how Kate knew the ingredients just by tasting the sauce blindfolded. Leading man annoyed me somehow, I didn’t find him charming at all. And boy, did Catherine look old! But really beautiful! Little girl, not cute. In other words, it’s the kitchen I like, and how Kate dons her apron in the most sophisticated way. I love it!

Noreservations
Food-related films have always fascinated me. Chocolat. Woman On Top. Babette’s Feast. Even Ratatouille. And now, I can’t wait to check out "No Reservations". The film stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as a master chef in a trendy Manhattan eatery, and Aaron Eckhart as the new sous chef in her kitchen. Rivalry becomes romance here, and so I guess this is another chick flick. Check out the official website of the movie http://noreservationsmovie.warnerbros.com/
